Beasts of the Southern Wild (tt2125435), Cimcime (Hushpuppy) is a lovable six-year-old girl who lives with her slightly eccentric father, Wink, in a poor but happy community on the shores of New Orleans called Bathtub. One day, Wink becomes mysteriously ill with an unprecedented and undiagnosed disease that disrupts the order of the world and triggers a sort of apocalypse. Ancient beasts called 'Aurochs' rise from their graves and begin to wage war to bring about the end of the world. Now, little Cimcime must leave her community behind and embark on a journey to find her mother on the other side of the world. She will have to save her father, her flooded home, and herself in the process. Adapted from the play 'Juicy and Delicious', this film was one of the most talked-about movies at major festivals in 2012. It received awards in significant categories at the Cannes and Sundance festivals, with particular recognition for the outstanding performance of child actress Quvenzhané Wallis.
